Singapore – Tall buildings, hell hole hostels, spicey curries and final goodbyes :(

Arriving in Singapore, travel cards in hand, we tackle the tube immediately. Checking in to the hostel and its potentially one of the worst we’ve had so far (no shock really it was mega cheap for Singapore standards). Staying in a twin bunk bed, which is legit duck taped to the wall with aircon that is dryer than the Sahara… and the worst yet to come lol. Not letting this disheartened us we head for some food, quickly mastering how we can make this trip as cheap as possible (street food is the answer btw). Singapore is breathtaking, a completely different world to the UK, and the opposite of Bali! I instantly fell in love with it, the busyness but the freshness of the whole place! We check out Clarke Quay and Boat Quay, both incredibly beautiful, then to the Merlion. We watched the singapore designer fashion showcase, styled by Daniel Boey which was amazing! And then finally head to garden by the bay to see the magic happen at night!

After a shocking night’s sleep, with club music bouncing through the walls intill late and guests talking louder than at all needed, we head back to Gardens by the Bay to see the flower and cloud dome, we describe these more as tree domes, and although impressive, are alot like the outside garden attractions. Heading back for a nap as I have been taken down by some sort of flu since having Bali belly. The evening is spent at the night safari, after some contemplation about wheather it would be ethical to go. The experience itself was ace, seeing lots of big cats and other animals, however some parts seem unethical, a few of the animals didn’t seem to have enough space, although still better than a Zoo.
After 2 nights staying in the hell hole box that was OSS hostels, its at last time to head to the next hostel, spacepods! Spacepods is cool, you can change the lights, we have our own beds, we have a good curtain, things were looking up…
First up we headed to Fort Canning Park, learning a lot of its history and how it was previously used as a Bunker for British and Singaporian soldiers. Then to Marine Sands Bay, watching the sunset and the lights come on! In the evening we walked along the river to find somewhere to have a drink, however no where was really tickling our fancy so we head back for some much needed kip! Having walked at least 10 miles a day for the last 3 days our feet were feeling tender to say the least.
Our final day in Singapore and it was an early start for me, having registered for pre-sale tickets for a festival in Australia I needed to be up and ready, 42 minutes of frustration later and I finally had them! So I’m off to see Fred Again, and will be solo riding my first festival ever in Sydney! Carley unfortunately didn’t get a good night’s sleep, with me receiving a variety of angry texts over night about her bunk mates’ snoring habits… we spent the final day doing absolutely zilch, both rather tired from over 3 weeks of jam packed activities, and with carley flying back home tomorrow we took the time to chill in the room for the first time on the whole trip. I got a much needed load of washing done and made myself comfy with some podcasts. In the evening we headed out for some drinks and dinner, going to little India for a curry, a soon regrettable choice after eating THE HOTTEST curry either of us had ever eaten. Thinking a chicken tikka would be a safe option we were gravely mistaken and subsequently had heartburn and stomach cramps for hours following. Luckily our veggie curry wasn’t as spicy but unfortunately my mouth was on fire by this point… 5am Wednesday morning comes around, and 2 girls with bad bellys say their final farewells… having spent the last 3 weeks together, looking over and not seeing my bunkmate was strange. It’s been an absolute ride travelling with one of my best pals, and I’m a wee bit sad to start the next step of my journey solo. Just me and Freddie from here on out…
