Luang Prabang: Waterfalls, Bowling, Monks and Dinner dates.

Cold dip

The ride to Luang Prabang was not quite as traumatic as the ride up to Nong Khiaw but it was pretty close lol… On arrival I headed out to watch the sunset on the river before having a pretty lame meal (it happens). An early night was in order as I had decided I wanted to get up for sunrise the following day!
Sunrise was unfortunately an incredibly cloudy one, however, it was still a very cool experience and I met another solo traveller also called Emma! The day was spent at the famous Kuang Si waterfall, one of the most spectacular waterfalls I have ever seen! A very cold dip, followed by the trip to the bear sanctuary which is next door and I was done for the day. Unfortunately I seemed to be getting ill and had to bail on the night out in order to sleep and pray that whatever illness was starting would disappear quickly..
Awaking at 3am, I felt a lot better however wake up to what i believed to be my bunk mate having sex underneath me (I later found out it was actually my friend in the room next door, with a companion, vibrating the god daym walls… points for effort I suppose). As I was just telling Emma how this hadn’t happened to me yet, I’m not surprised that it would occur just hours after I’d had my bragging rights. Luckily it was over before I could really start getting annoyed and off back to sleep I went, no longer a trauma free teen from my hostel days lol. My final day full day in Lao was an incredibly wholesome one, starting with a meal out with friends from my hostel, followed by an evening trip to a local waterfall called Tat Sae. A freshen up in the evening followed by the most wonderful meal, sharing a beef brisket and getting to cook it ourselves on hot coals. Finally I made it to the famous bowling alley, a bar, and bowling alley where everyone goes in the evenings. It’s the only place open past 11pm and is conveniently owned by the local police force (I wonder why lol). For the first time in my life (I think) I didn’t lose at bowling, with a happy 4th place, I’ll take it!
My final day is another pre sunrise start, this time joined by Kai and Julli to go and observe the Monks during the alms ceremony, which takes place every morning. This is where the Monks get given food from the locals. It was a very relaxing and interesting experience, with the topic of religion fueling a political debate between us all, something which could be deemed as a topic that shouldn’t be discussed at 5:30am… Back to bed for a power nap for a chill afternoon before my flight to Vietnam!

A funny story to make anyone laugh: during my trip I used a new facewash in the shower, obviously when washing my face and rinsing I had my eyes closed. Well when I opened them again, all I saw was BLACK. I immediately thought I’d gone blind, the new face wash has made me fucking blind… well after 30 seconds frozen still in pure panic I move my arm to grab a towel and try get out the bathroom with no vision. Suddenly I see light… the bathroom light is a motion sensorer, I wasn’t blind, I was just still for too long…
