Arriving in Mui Ne and its a quick check in and shower before I head to the local sights. I had one day to kill before Jay braves the night bus from Hue An. My first stop? Breaky, with a wonderful chicken sandwich doing the job, in a cute little cafe which little did i know would play a huge rool in my weekend. Next I head to the red dunes, one of the famous dune sights in the area. The rest of the day is spent wondering the beaches before I head for dinner. The area is a little sketchy, with one man quite literally stopping in his tracks as I walk by and starring me up and down. A bizarre interaction!
Jay finally arrives in Mui Ne and after him getting over the initial shock of how shit his room is we make tracks for breaky. Back to the cafe! Next was a hunt for a scooter, which proved to be incredibly difficult. Our homestay hosts speak no English and quite honestly do absolutely nothing remotely helpful, so after a few failed conversations we head out. We ask multiple people in multiple places where we can hire a scooter before taking one last ditch attempt and asking in the cafe. Boom! The man rings his friend and within 5 minutes we have a scooter for the weekend. The stars start to align.
The first stop, quad bikes on the white sand dunes. A genuinely mental experience, with me even driving for some of it (and not flipping it!). So much fun and worth every penny. Then we checked out some of the beaches and veiw points around the area before heading to a food court outside of town. This was where we were greeted by the most wonderful sunset, the best Mexican food and the most delicious homemade chocolate all in a super cute vibey area! The evening is spent in a bar, with a few beers and the football, a beautiful end to a beautiful day.
Our original plan was to wake up at 5am and go and watch the sunset, but I had a genuinely awful sleep and come 5am I quickly bailed. So the day restarted at 8am, this time to the tune of Jay singing (the walls are thin).
The days activities began at the red canyon, before heading down the fairy stream (which honestly was just a big stream lol). Then after a few quick stops at various bus stations to plan our exit the following day we head to yet another food court for breaky. Again, a genuinely lovely place, so pretty and very good vibes all round. Back to food court No.1 to once again indulge in the chocolates on offer (honestly they were this good!).
Post food coma we head to the fishing village, seeing all the boats was very pretty, however the fish heads on the beach? Abit grim! Next stop the red dunes, this time opting to do some “sledging”. A skill neither I or Jay could hack and after multiple failed attempts at good aerodynamics down the dunes we hung up our boards and walked away… funny but tragic affairs. The evening included beers back at the cafe that saved our lives before a quick shower ready to catch my bus to Ho Chi Minh City!
