After the most dire nights sleep, I awake feeling 100 times worse than the day prior. With every movement comes more discomfort and the fever is so strong I believe eggs would cook perfectly on my skin. With this in mind, i however still try to go to Koh Rong! The logic is that Maïwenn is travelling aswell, to go and meet some friends, thus I will have someone to go with and help me along the way if I need. Also, if I am going to waste a day ill, I may as well waste it travelling too! The journey was a two step journey, a train and then a boat. The train was actually very smooth and meant I could sleep the whole way. By the time the boat came I was feeling particularly poor and just wanted a bed, which finally I was in 3:30pm! Still in agony I pass out for the afternoon, awaking to force some dinner down me, before passing out again for the night. Finally at 3am my fever broke! Nearly 48hrs later… meaning I woke up feeling far better than I did the days previous, still not 100% though.
After breaky I head for a wonder, running into Maïwenn and Co. Deciding to join them on there walk to sunset beach, which included a small hike through the island/forest to the other side. Some light exercise to ease me back into normal life… The beach was beautiful, the perfect reading spot. The evening was spent watching the storm unleash on the island. With some pretty magnificent lightening on display!
In the morning it was clear some damage had been done over night. With alot of the small boats floaded. After watching a couole locals struggle for a few minutes i recruited a couple of lads to help flip the boat, knowing that as much as I’d like to think I’m mega strength, my help alone was not going to cut it. The day was then spent with Ben, one of the lads that’s helped with the boat. With activities ranging from chilling on the beach, playing Frisbee in the sea with a pot lid, using trash to play bat and ball and most importantly building a sand castle! Truly a magnificent day, followed by a few calls homes and one or too many drinks. Subsequently meaning that not only did I miss the England game due to being in bed, I didn’t even last till the end of the France game…
My original plan was to extend my stay on the island another night. However, the hostel was full. So after flipping a coin on weather to find somewhere new or get the night bus to Siem Reap, it was get the night bus that won. It was a final chill day on the beach, and of course, it had some extra drama. With a group of incredibly drunk lads, one in particular causing some bother and showing a bit too much of liking to me. Luckily, his friend soon stepped in, not only telling him to f*ck off, and also coming to sit with me intill he departed, but also taking his pal aside and literally telling him “you never speak to a bird like that, never ever”. It’s nice to see that some lads will correct their mates’ behaviour and will also look out for the girls. Ive always been a firm supporter that not all men are dicks but its nice to see that in total strangers!
