Phillapines Pt 2 – El Nido

Jorg 1 : Fear Of Heights 0

My first night in El Nido involved falling asleep before dinner and sleeping for 16 hours. As I had 1 hour of sleep the night previous due to mine and Brian’s all-nighter antics, I let this one slide. My first day in El Nido was a very chill one, walking around the town and chilling on the beach! While on the beach, I met a young local lad called Si. He told me about his hopes and dreams and wish for financial freedom. Along with his business ideas. It’s nice to see education and business being at the forefront of young people’s minds in a country where this is difficult!

The evening involved Limbo, with Nicholas showing off his limbo skills and coming in 3rd place! Followed by food and a few cocktails before heading to bed in prep for our tour in the morning. The journey home involved a quick sing song with some locals out with a guitar and speaker, a very fun and wholesome time to get everyone in the Christmas spirit!

Unfortunately in the morning all boats were called to shore due to a typhoon warning, so instead I opted to spend my day with Jorg, and head on an In Land Tour. This included a surprise activity “the canopy”, an amazing bridge climb up and to a veiw point. Jorg and his fear of heights, were not too impressed, but after much motivation we both made it in one piece and had accomplished something! The rest of the day was spent on various beaches around the island, with a beautiful lunch of shrimp and crab. At the final beach I witnessed 5 lifeguards save a man’s life who had been swept away by the current, something quite remarkable to me considering these men only had 1 float to support them, no boat or body boards to help them with the rescue. Everyone was unharmed but it showed how scary the waters are here sometimes during Typhoon season. The evening involved a rather long power nap, followed by going out to watch the last of the world cup final, with some farewells afterwards, saying goodbye to Jimmy, our guide and a new friend made on the boat across to El Nido!

My final morning before hopping across to Port Barton involved some shopping, finally caving and buying a new outfit after 4 months of revolving the same attire.
