I decided I would spend my Christmas period in Bali with friends made on my travels. So after another set of goodbyes and an incredibly long travel day (involving an 8 hour layover in Manila Airport eww), I finally arrived in rainy Bali.
Me, Jay, Blake, and Ali all pitched in for a villa for the few days around Christmas. The first day was rather uneventful as no surprise it rained all day.. Christmas Eve was a day of Christmas food shopping and drinks to celebrate Blakes birthday! It was no surprise that the topic of conversations got heated by midnight, and political arguments broke out about the royal family and the rich. Typical British arguments… We did however learn a new card game called “Dildo”, it’s a basic but highly amusing game where the aim is to get rid of your 4 cards/get the lowest number while also trying to screw the other players. By the end of the week, Jay and I were hooked! Cooking a christmas dinner in an oven with only one shelf, and 3 trays wasn’t completely impossible, but did present some issues we had to overcome. Creating gravy/cheese sauce without English ingredients also presented some level of challenge. However, food was successfully cooked and edible. It wasn’t the best Christmas dinner ever created but also not the worst…
With the Christmas period being over, I checked into a hostel for my final 4 days before my flight to Australia. The first night, we went to a cool bar nearby where I met a few nice locals, including Riski, a lovely wee shy lad from the area.
I enjoyed a surfing session with Blake one day, which was more unsuccessful than successful due to the strength of the waves, and included me getting absolutely T-totaled by a wave and cutting my lip, and foot… all in the name of learning a sport though!
An evening out at the bars, dancing like utter fools, was made all that more interesting by seeing a lad in a wheelchair being pulled along by his pal on a motorbike. A sight I hope never to forget. The creativity is truly admired!
The final evening was a family meal, of course ending in the cool bar. I decided to stay till close and spend my last evening with Riski, getting to meet his utterly adorable puppy along the way.
Unfortunately for me, my luck ran thin on my last day, and as I awaited my transfer to the airport, Bali belly hit me hard! Vomiting just as much as last time, this time, however, the vomit was on the airport floor! Genuinely horrific… Luckily for me, the aeroplane was empty, and it was an overnight flight, which meant I had a full row to sleep and no queue for the toilet if the sickness hit.
