Sydney is a city of mass potential. But this potential leaves people isolated. There’s a huge expectation in this city that your life will suddenly become like a movie, like the tiktoks all over social media. But in such a huge place, surrounded by so many people, it’s hard to find where you belong amongst it all.
My choice to leave wasn’t a shock to me, and likely not others either. Sydney is one of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever been to. It has so much character and has been a wonderful place to live and explore. However, the lifestyle I am living with no structure in my shift pattern, combined with feeling isolated. I am no longer feeling myself.
The comforting thing about my choice to leave Sydney is that I’ve recently met people who also feel the same way. It seems a lot of people move across here in groups, and it can be difficult to integrate yourself into an already formed group of people. I’ve made some really wonderful friends here, that I will, of course, stay in contact with and see again. But a sense of not belonging can be quite disruptive to life, especially when life already lacks structure.
