The trip to Magnetic Island was short and sweet, things we love. On the bus to my hostel, I met Caro, and this set up for magical 4 days on the island! We agreed we’d head to the wallaby rock that evening and go and feed the little fellas. Katherina also joined us, and 2 became 3. 3 became 4 when that evening I met Georgia while eating my dinner, and she decided to join us on our early morning hike the next day.
The 4 of us set off to complete the Fort hike, followed by a hike around the 4 bays, stopping when we spotted a koala up a tree. The 9km hike was made longer as we stopped at each bay for a sunbath, snorkel, and few photo ops, of course. By 3pm, we were out of food and water, and dehydration was setting in, which came accompanied with some slight delirium, collecting a coconut from a tree and trying to crack it unsuccessfully. On arrival to horseshoe bay, our final stop, we sprinted to the local shop for rehydration and ice lollies before a failed attempt at feeding some birds (see below). Finishing our day watching the sun go down on the beach with a golden hour swim. The evening was round off with me and Caro finally cracking open the coconut with 2 knifes, alot of brute force and some determination, and getting some sweet coconut water as a return prize for our hard work. Finishing the night with a game of dildo, yet another group of individuals I’ve managed to get hooked to the game (it’s a cult).
The next morning was another early one as we headed back to the wallabies for a final feeding session. Before completing a rather uphill 6km hike through arcadia, where we saw 4 koala bears and a baby koala! Potentially the cutest thing we have all encountered and made the hike worth it in every way.
It was a chill afternoon, with me and G completing some yoga on the beach before dinner. Soup was on offer this evening, but unfortunately, my soup looked me like slim and was kinda hard to get down. The evening hostel event was bingo, where we won a €100 bar tab, and subsequently spent it on wine, baby Gunness, and lots of juice for those of us that weren’t on the boozy vibes. Meeting 3 Aussie boys while playing, who were without doubt the absolute funniest lads I have ever met. They’d come across to the island for the evening, had no accommodation, and had no plan. The evening was spent dancing the night away before some silly people decided a night time swim in the sea was wise. 2am soon came around and the sleeping arrangements were somehow organised, with Seb top tailing with me, Josh camping in with Caro in her very very small tent, and Ryan, the birthday boy squeezing in with G on the top bunk. More giggles were had in the morning debrief before farewells were said.
Another early morning was had as it was check out day, with one more hike to complete on the island I set of for the Hawking lookout, the easiest hike on the island, saving it till last of course. An afternoon of sunbathing and admin was had before heading to the final stop on this east coast adventure before heading back down south to see a special someone!
Funny things said that I’d like to remember:
“So your back packing, but you’ve lost you back pack, are you just acking”
“Idk if I want to top tail with you.” “Oh, don’t worry about the top tailing part then” “So you’re just tailing”
“You can’t leave him outside all night. He’s diabetic.” “I love you for that”
“Would you leave Townsville” “No I have lots of friends” 🥺
“Things that fly”
Cheers to ryan he’s true blue
He’s a piss pot through and thro
Hes a bastard, so they say
He went to go to heaven but he went the other way
He went down down down..
Quote of the day: if you just go about your day doing the things you like doing, you will also meet other people, doing the same things that they also like doing, and then your surrounded by like minded people, who all like doing the same things.
