Evenings

Take 2 of moving to Newcastle (this time on the other side of the world) went pretty smoothly. Kicking off watching the Newcastle knights play, followed by drama filled drinks at the local. The hostel I was staying in was next to the beach, and the weather was good, the people even better. Over the next couple of days I met a variety of people, including the South American boys Gasper and Mauro, and two Israelis, Guy and Ayal, two people who I now hold close to my heart. I started working almost immediately, and unlike in Sydney, the shifts were easy to get and easy enough to get to. Of course, I had my share of bad shifts, with some wards being short staffed even with the better working conditions here, but overall things were good.

A couple of weeks in, house viewing began, and after viewing 3 places, I decided to go in with John and Ethan. Two aussie lads, sound enough guys, and on par messiness with myself. The house was a 3 month contract, giving me enough time to settle in and not get too tied down.

The weeks were filled with sunset painting sessions, running the extraordinary hilly coastal walk and DYING. I got back into my pilates and started a new semi hobby of callisthenics. Skateboarding continued after my skateboard got fixed up, and hours were spent skating the beach front and harbour!

A trip to Blackbutt national park, resulted in me, Guy and Ayal being lost in the woods and me being a wee bit late to work. Weirdness arose at the bus station as I waited for my bus after work, with one
women buying me a cup of tea and another giving me $20 for the bus, stating one day I’d be looking after her (strange, I know).

A visit to Sydney occured, heading down to see friends and watch a gig of a local band, before another failed night out in the city where once again Sydney showed us that the music taste has some serious improvement to be made! Breaky was head for the journey back home was made.

Cinema dates kicked off with going to see Openhiemer, some more painting, and then moving into the new place. Sourcing a bed from a lady nearby and settling into the new home.

A week working 55 hours absolutely killing myself off, before a night out at the local “to go to club” and hosting the afters, which ended with me, Richard, an unnamed man and Louisa on the sofa watching shrek. More beach days occurred, with volleyball being a sport I can not play. A day was spent cutting Guys hair before sunset views at the river, where Ayal tried to throw me in said river and on lookers got their daily laugh. The local running club was joined, and the days filled up easily. Sweet but peaceful.
Date nights continued with Greengrocer boy with the highlights being a helicopter ride over newcastle! A bucket list item ticked off with the best human (Awh) and hikes through Glenrock National Park (and us getting semi lost, although this was never admitted by the guide himself…)
Another week of hard graft came to a close with a visit from Matias and Co. Finally, I saw each other after 7 months (see Adelaide post hehe). The day was spent on the beach, walking the harbour, and finishing off with a pint, baking, and a movie night. In the morning, I rallied the troops, and we headed out to complete the coastal walk, showing them the sights of Newcastle before another week of work began. Goodbyes were had that week with Birty and Rob leaving the hostel to continue their travels around Australia! A new chapter begins!

Newcastle has been my home for 6 weeks now, and I must say it’s not too bad šŸ«¶šŸ»
