Thailand: The family holiday has left the group chat!

Elephants

After 13 hours of travelling, I arrived in Bangkok airport and grabbed an Uber to the hotel, booked by my dad! I must add that I looked quite the picture at this point, tired, rucksack in hand and not particularly well dressed. Well, when I entered the 5 star accommodation, it didn’t take my dad long to spot as I stood out like a sore thumb! Checked in, it was time to eat left over pizza and head to bed, I was a tired soul!

We had 3 days in Bangkok, with Clare feeling a wee bit travel sick from the previous days sat on a flying metal box in the sky our first day was operation chill! Me and my dad headed out to the street to source some snacks and anti sickness before I explored the gym and its accompanying sauna and steam room. Reader, when I tell you this was the best sauna and steam room I’ve ever seen, I am not lying. The arvo was spent by the pool in relax mode, reading and swimming before we headed to the poolside restaurant for some dinner. The next day me and the father headed out to Bangkok’s palace, not before of course nearly being scammed by the locals (Bangkok is known for it lol), the palace was nice, and a good way to spend the day before we navigated the tube home. This is where my dads SERSIOUS lack of direction shone brighter than the sun as he refused to allow me to lead the way when leaving the tube station, intill at last on the 3rd failed attempt, I put my foot down and of course managed to get us out the station in the correct direction! In the evening, we headed to above eleven, a roof top restaurant on the 34th floor, for some food and drinks (and photo ops) to celebrate my dad, becoming older and greyer! Day 3 was an early breaky before heading to the airport for a flight to Koh Samui, where another wonderful accommodation option awaited us!

On arrival to the resort, I knew that pure relaxation was about to set in! 10 days of bliss, you could say. Our first day was spent relaxing, in the gym, and eating a lovely and free dinner at the resort restaurant! The following 2 days were spent relaxing, swimming, gyming, and, for me, paddleboarding. The evenings were spent exploring the local night markets, buying a new wardrobe and watching the reaction of my dad and Clare, as they witnessed the delicacies of the Thai night market hehe. I headed to the Elephant Sanctuary, where I got to feed elephants and see them wandering around and being elephant like! I’ve always been sceptical of elephant sanctuary in Asia, but after some serious research I decided to visit and it was lovely to see the elephants able to roam freely and spend there days eating and pooping (the dream). We had a couple of rainy days, but we still managed to catch some rays during these! We headed to a restaurant to watch a fire show, which was very a cool to see (slightly ruined by the very rude and strange English waiter who was working in the restaurant, bad reveiws were given). I spent the day with a friend who I’d not seen for 2 years, as we both just happened to be in the same place at the same time! We went to do a couple small hikes on the island, and to look at a few of the veiw points around the island, before heading to the capabara Cafe, where we got to feed capabaras, rabbits, birds, a couple of crazy marmazets, and meet and VERY naughty raccon who attempted to eat a pen lid! Our final day was spent in the pool, having races and playing games, before a final meal together. Dildo was also taught to the adults during the holiday, which nearly caused domestic chaos as my dad is what can only be described as a sore looser and a poor sport when learning something new, but after a few days he was soon raring to play, just in time for Clare to start religiously cheating at the game!

The rest of my hols were spent solo. I had another couple days in Koh Samui, with a day spent on a mini hike to a water fall near by, where I read my book and relaxed and also got to spot a water buffalo in the wild! I was also on the side of the island that witnessed the sunset, so I enjoyed the veiws with dinner! I then head to Khao Sok National Park, where I spent the day with my roommate Noah, a Dutch chippy living in aus and living a life similar to mine! We spent the arvo by the river witnesses monkeys and OTTERS!! (Unfortunately, no photos of the otters, but photos in my mind for life), before heading to dinner. The next few days, I spent at the lake side, staying in a lake house, where I swam, kayaked and back flipped my way around! The national park is incredible, and it’s truly a blessing to be able to visit (as i didn’t get the chance last time I was in Thailand).

Upon leaving Khao sok I had a 13 hrs train to Bangkok (gross I know), luckily I met a couple who were also getting the train so we spent the evening together sharing travel stories and playing cards before an awfully sleepless night occured! My final day in Bangkok was very chilled, getting a massage (and getting slightly more than I bargined for with this one, lol, as the lady massaged my boobs ahahaha) and then eating my final pad thai before heading to the airport for another sleepless day of travel!
